Storm Surge and Wind Wave Simulations for Travelers Insurance

Description

In collaboration with the Travelers Insurance Company, RENCI is conducting a suite of storm-surge simulations for three cities on the US Atlantic coast to identify specific areas that may be particularly at risk to the joint hazards of tropical cyclones and sea level rise (SLR). The three areas of interest are Charleston SC, Wilmington NC, and Virginia Beach/Norfolk, VA, where Travelers writes a substantial amount of commercial insurance. RENCI is developing the parametric hurricane descriptions and sea level rise scenarios, computing the associated storm surge response, and synthesizing the results for use in Travelers Insurance Catastrophe research group. The ADCIRC Prediction system is being used to compute the storm surge threat.

RENCI's Role
